With advances in communication technology it is not really difficult to nurture and maintain long distance relationships. Use technology to the maximum advantage and keep in touch through video calls, webcam, emails etc. But since physical closeness plays an important role in nurturing long distance relationships, it is important that parties involved must make an effort to visit each other quite regularly. Depending on the distance and cost, it can be once a week or two weeks or at least once a month. Sending flowers or gifts are only secondary to being there in person to show love and affection. And a successful long distance relationship thrives on nothing but complete understanding and trust. If there are any doubts about that then the relationship can just crumble and disappear sooner than expected.
