What does it mean to be a hero in America? To be successful in America? What does nature mean to Americans?
Anybody who wants to answer, its for a school project. There are 3 more questions that go with these, if you want to answer.
What does it mean to be a hero in America?
My definition, as an American, is that a hero is one who makes an unselfish sacrifice for the perceived greater good. As a more notable example, a hero is often recognized for the successful betterment or prevention (rescue) of others who are at imminent risk of loss of life or likely to suffer from a serious injury without contemplating his or her personal or professional advantage.
Be successful in America?
In the context of America I believe the trend of the definition of success has shifted from the one-time materialistic value to achieving the feeling of purpose. That is, many Americans now consider their success achieved when they become happy and / or satisfied and not necessarily based on monetary metrics (although that remains a contributing factor for many to achieve happiness, and therefore, purpose).
Purpose may be obtained by having a less financial awarding or rewarding job but greater satisfaction or the knowledge that one is contributing to the success of a healthy family (mentally and physically), the feeling of belonging, satisfaction of contributing to society, etc…
What does nature mean to Americans?
Nature to Americans, may simply be anything that is not man-made. That is occurring naturally versus anthropogenically (caused or influenced by humans).
